Elon Musk Accuses ‘Oligarchs’ of Blocking Starlink in India

Elon Musk has accused unnamed Indian “oligarchs” of trying to block Starlink’s commercial entry into India, alleging that powerful business interests are seeking to protect their position in the country’s telecom market.
Musk made the remarks on X, claiming that Starlink’s launch was being obstructed by interests seeking to maintain a “monopolistic chokehold” over Indian consumers. He did not identify the individuals or companies he was referring to.
Starlink has received an operating licence in India but still requires remaining regulatory approvals, including security-related clearances and spectrum allocation, before commercial services can begin. The company has been working through the required approval process.
The Indian government has rejected suggestions of discriminatory treatment, saying the satellite-communication framework is fair and non-discriminatory. The dispute highlights the regulatory challenges surrounding the entry of satellite internet services into India’s rapidly expanding connectivity market.
