Iran's President Meets Putin as Russia Offers Peace Support

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 8, 2026, in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, amid continuing tensions involving Iran and the United States. The meeting took place on the sidelines of regional summits, with both leaders discussing the conflict and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Putin said Russia was prepared to do everything within its power to help resolve the situation in the Middle East. He also said Iran was making genuine efforts to end the conflict and pursue a peaceful solution.

Pezeshkian discussed diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington, revealing that the two sides had exchanged new proposals aimed at ending the war and addressing the situation surrounding the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a major route for global oil shipments.

The two presidents also discussed expanding cooperation in key sectors, including energy, agriculture, transportation and trade. They stressed the importance of advancing joint projects and continuing cooperation under the comprehensive partnership between their countries.

The meeting highlighted Moscow's diplomatic support for Tehran as efforts to resolve the conflict continue. However, Russia's offer to assist does not mean that a peace agreement has been reached, and the outcome will depend on further negotiations between the parties involved.
